Neurocounseling

Dr. Kasper provides several treatment modalities like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, a Psychodynamic approach, and a type of EMDR brain-based model called Observed and Experiential Integration (OEI). Neurocounseling is the underpinning of her work at Kasper Counseling. “Neuroscience is broadly defined as the scientific study of the nervous system. It is a discipline with many branches, ranging from rigorous scientific disciplines such as affective, cognitive, and social neuroscience, to applied disciplines (Beeson & Field, 2017). A pioneer in the field, Dr. Lori Ann Russell- Chapin defined neurocounseling as “The integration of neuroscience into the practice of counseling by teaching and illustrating the physiological underpinnings of many of our mental health concerns,” (Russell-Chapin, 2016, p. 94). As human beings we want to understand ourselves, and neurocounseling advances that.
